Aberavon’s AM David Rees was pleased to join with the Minister for Health and Social Services and the Minister for Finance as they visited Neath Port Talbot Hospital on Baglan Moors today. During their visit the Ministers saw the excellent work being undertaken by staff at the hospital’s Minor Injury Unit (MIU) which forms part of the unscheduled care provision within the ABMU Health Board.
David Rees said, “The MIU department at Neath Port Talbot Hospital offers an excellent 24/7 service on a variety of minor injuries as an alternative to Morriston or Bridgend’s A&E Departments with almost all patients being seen and discharged within 2 hours.”
“I am pleased the Health Minister has seen the quality of care at the Unit and acknowledges its role in reducing pressures at major A&E departments.”
The Ministers also announced a £3 million investment into an electronic patient record management system which will provide improved outcomes for patients both as they attend emergency units and when they return to their GP’s following discharge.
David Rees said, “Recognition of improved data and record keeping has been highlighted on many occasions during my time as Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee at the National Assembly. I very much welcome this investment which will start addressing these points and I’m pleased that ABMU has been selected to be one of the first to adopt this national system.”
