Labour AMs and MPs representing constituencies in Neath, Aberavon, Bridgend and Ogmore have met to discuss the future of communities in the proximity of past and present opencast coal sites.
In a joint statement they have released today, they state:
“We are seeking a way forward on behalf of all our local communities to secure the environment in a safe and healthy way”.
“We are calling for a summit of all stakeholders, including all levels of government and private operators, to protect, improve, and sustain our environment and our local communities”.
“We welcome the debate secured by Madeline Moon, MP for Bridgend, on opencast coal restoration across the UK, in Westminster on January 29th, and will look closely at the response from the UK Government Minister.”
