David Rees, AM for Aberavon this week attended an event organised by Cancer Research UK to highlight the power of research in beating cancer.
In Wales, 50 people are diagnosed with cancer every day – that’s more than 17, 000 people each year. But research is helping to win the fight against cancer. Survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years and the best research teams are developing better ways to prevent, control and cure the disease.
Cancer Research UK spent the day in the National Assembly for Wales showing AMs how drug discoveries and clinical trials are put into practice through their Portable Lab.
Emma Greenwood, Head of Policy Development at Cancer Research UK said, “It’s essential that the Government continues to support the research environment in Wales so we can bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”
David Rees AM said, “Research is cancer’s number one enemy, so I was delighted to visit Cancer Research UK’s Portable Lab and show my support for research in Wales. From developing targeted screening programmes which help detect cancer earlier to clinical trials that mean that patients can access the latest cancer drugs, Cancer Research UK is working to improve and save lives right across Wales.”
