David Rees AM and NPT Homes welcome Minister for Housing and Regeneration to Aberavon

David Rees, AM for Aberavon, today welcomed Carl Sargeant, AM for Alyn and Deeside and Minister for Housing and Regeneration, to Aberavon to see the work being undertaken on properties in Aberavon by Neath Port Talbot Homes to ensure those properties meet Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) levels.

The Welsh Government’s Welsh Housing Quality Standard requires all social landlords to improve their housing stock to an acceptable level by 2020, to ensure that properties are of good quality and suitable for the needs of existing and future generations. The Welsh Government believes that the quality of existing homes, particularly for those who are poor or vulnerable, is crucial, while investment in people’s homes also represents an investment in local jobs, skills and communities.

The visit included a tour of the recently completed works on a block of flats in the Sandfields area, with David and the Minister meeting with a local resident who said that the works have totally changed the building, producing a much more homely feel to the communal areas.

David said: “I was delighted to welcome the Minister for Housing and Regeneration Carl Sargeant to Aberavon today to see for ourselves the work being undertaken by NPT Homes to ensure that their homes meet Welsh Quality Housing Standard levels. The works have made a great difference to the building, and I am pleased to hear the positive comments from local residents.”
