David Rees, Assembly Member for Aberavon, has today congratulated the students of the Neath Port Talbot area, and across Wales as a whole, for their excellent GCSE results, which saw a high overall pass rate of 98.5%, meaning that Welsh students are now achieving at the same rate as their counterparts in England.
The narrowing of the gap between Wales and England is the closest it has been in five years with regard to young people achieving the highest marks; there were increases amongst those achieving A*- C and A*-A grades, as well as improvements being seen across particular subject areas, including across all Science subjects, English Language and the Welsh Baccalaureate, with over 60% of learners now studying for this qualification.
David said: “I am delighted to see that so many young people in Port Talbot and across Wales who have been working hard have achieved excellent results in their GCSEs. Our local results show a strong performance across the indicators consolidating the work of recent years. I would like to congratulate all students on their achievements and I further wish to acknowledge the dedication and commitment of their teachers and lecturers who have ably supported them throughout their years of study. I wish our students well in their future endeavours.”
