David Rees AM supports Marie Curie Cancer Care Great Daffodil Appeal 2014

On Wednesday 12th February David Rees AM attended the launch of the Marie Curie Cancer Care Daffodil Appeal 2014 in the Senedd, which included a poster exhibit of their work in Wales. Since 1948, Marie Curie Cancer Care have been fundraising and campaigning to improve the care and quality of life of terminally ill people, with their trained nurses providing vital and valued care for patients in their final months and days.

In 2012-13, 2000 Marie Curie nurses, around 177 of whom are based in Wales, provided more than 1.3 million nursing hours to over 30,000 patients and their families across the UK, while their hospices, including a Welsh-based centre in Penarth, provide expert end of life care for more than 7000 patients a year. Working in partnership with the NHS, they further support a Palliative Care Research Centre in Cardiff, working to maintain patients in their own home and ensuring they are able to die with dignity. Support for the Great Daffodil appeal allows their nurses and volunteers to continue their good work and bolsters their fight to ensure better care for the terminally ill.

David Rees AM said: “Marie Curie staff provide an invaluable service to both the patient and his/her family at a difficult time for everyone.  Both of my parents benefited from this care and I encourage everyone to buy and wear a daffodil to show their support.”
