£10m is being invested in the Northern Gateway site in Deeside to unlock the development potential of commercial land which will be a boost for employment in the region, Economy and North Wales Minister Ken Skates announced today
The funding will allow the construction of a public highway across the Northern Gateway site to be completed, which is critical to open up the land which is set aside for development. The completion of the road makes the site more attractive to developers.
The investment will also include creating a bus route to link communities and work places in Flintshire as part of the North Wales Metro. This work will be carried out in partnership with Flintshire Council.
20 acres of the 220 acres of commercial land have already been opened up for development following the completion of a first phase of road development. Completing the road will be an important factor in opening up the remaining sections, and will contribute towards the region’s recovery following the coronavirus pandemic.
Minister for Economy and North Wales Ken Skates said: “The Northern Gateway has great potential to deliver employment opportunities in the region. The land itself is set aside for development but the completion of the road across the site is critical to attract business there. The proposals will also include a bus route delivered in partnership with Flintshire Council.
“This £10million investment will create a significant expansion of the Deeside Industrial Park and unlock a site which has tremendous potential.
“We know there are businesses interested in the site, and the completion of the road will be of benefit to them. We are committed to the success of the Northern Gateway and today is a step towards delivering on its potential.
“This site has the potential to be a key driver in the region’s recovery following the coronavirus pandemic.”
